Minutes for: BHCA Monthly Meeting from 11/12/2008 - 7:00pm to 11/12/2008 - 8:30pm
Attendees: (Users) Dianne Sundstrom; GWoodruff; jfries; Mike Stewart; MNeeley; (Other) Doug Jordan; Julie Maleki from Gary De Long's office
The meeting was brought to order at 7:10 PM.
J. Maleki reported that 151 storm drains have been upgraded between 9th Place and the Belmont Pier with protectors and sponges. Such changes will help prevent spillage into coastal waters. If residents note problems with storm drains, the City can be notified by either emailing a storm drain location to Robert_Earl@longbeach.gov or calling (562) 570-3867 (DUMP). A discussion regarding tree pruning etc ensued; any problems related to trees on City property can be reported to:
Jerry Rowland
Street Tree Maintenance
570-2770
Julie also reported that only one street in the Heights will undergo repairs in this fiscal budget. That location is 5th Street between Termino and Grand.
D. Sundstrom reported on 2 natural gas pipeline projects that will impact local streets: one in the Marine stadium area which will have little impact and another on Ximeno and Prospect streets between Broadway and 3rd as well as a section of Vista between Bennett and Quincy. More information can be found at the City's website.
D. Sundstrom reported that the Board has been reviewing the current bylaws and an initial revision has been completed. A board meeting is being scheduled to review the changes prior to submitting the document to members of the BHCA for review and approval. We anticipate having a final version posted to this website by mid-December. We are also in the process of posting information regarding responsibilities of board of director offices as well as setting up a link on this website for nominations for new board members. Elections will take place in the first quarter of 2009.
Mike Stewart reported that he is committed to upgrading and improving the BHCA website by the end of this week, November 21. Members who are interested in assisting Mike with ongoing maintenance and improvements to the website should noticy Mike through the "contact" link on this website.
J. Fries and D. Sundstrom reported that the BHCA has approximately $4,000 in reserve.
M. Stewart suggested purchasing banners announcing the BHCA monthly meeting. Banners could be posted at Fremont (with permission of the school) and also at the Colorado lagoon at Park and 4th. D. Sundstrom will contact potential sponsors.
A decision was made to sponsor the "Light the Heights" contest again this year. M. Stewart will set up a nomination link where photos can also be posted by those nominating a location. As in past years, the Board will review nominations and select the top 3 entrants.
Those present decided to schedule a meeting in December; however, G. De Long notified D. Sundstrom on 11/17 that he had a conflict with the December date so a decision has been made to cancel the December meeting and resume in January. Do mark your schedules with the January 14th meeting as we plan to have a presentation by the City's Development staff on the zoning concept of "placetypes". Gary De Long will also be attending and updating current items of interest to the Heights including a discussion regarding the wetlands project.
G. Woodruff suggested the Board investigate the cost/benefit of liability insurance. D. Sundstrom will follow-up with the Board and report back.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Dianne Sundstrom
