FYI in case you missed it. The Press-Telegram is reporting today that the City Council is considering 5 proposals for citywide wireless internet access: http://www.presstelegram.com/news/ci_4142579
Note: no public money will be offered to pay for any project.
While I like the idea, I hope the Council studies this closely. The current proposals are for WiFi projects, which would require 30 access points per square mile. Newer technology, such as WiMax (mentioned briefly in the article), are supposed to provide greater speeds and have much better coverage (not nearly as many access points needed). Also, in my brief exposure to similar-type projects, I remember that the access point radios functioned at 2.4ghz, the same frequency as the majority of cordless telephones; and there was potential for disruption.
Thoughts?

Too expensive?
At first glance, it seems too expensive. Why pay $20 monthly when DSL is available for $15?
