Bring your unused or broken "E-Waste" for safe recycling.  E-Waste often contains toxic substances such as mercury and lead.  In fact, it is now illegal to throw away some forms of it.  E-Waste includes TVs, DVD players, computer monitors and peripherals, cellular phones, electronics, LCD screens, digital clocks and watches, and more.  Your e-waste will be donated to Goodwill for recycling and your donation is tax-deductible.  All cell phones will be donated to Su Casa Domestic Abuse Network to help spouses and children successfully transition out of abusive homes.  Plus you might win free tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific!

2007 HOMELESS COUNT  
 
Who : The Department of Health and Human Services and the wide variety of community stakeholders in Long Beach will conduct the 2007 Homeless Count project.
 
 
What : A comprehensive street-based and service-based enumeration process designed to identify how many people are homeless in the City of Long Beach at a given point-in-time.
 
 
Where : The count will be conducted within the 52 square miles of the City of Long Beach.
 
 
When : The count enumeration will be focused on a point-in-time count on January 25 th , 2007. Orientation sessions for volunteers will be held on Tuesday January 16 th at 1pm and 6pm, Wednesday January 17 th  at 6pm and Thursday January 18h at 1pm and 6pm.  The one hour orientations will be held at the Multi-Service Center, 1301 W. 12 th Street, Long Beach, Ca. 90813.
 
 
Why : This is a National mandate from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The homeless count is intended to obtain an unduplicated enumeration of homeless individuals in the City of Long Beach at a given point in time.
 
 
How : The Homeless Services Officer and a steering committee of key stakeholders will recruit 200 or more volunteers to ensure that the count is thoroughly conducted throughout the City. Community-based project teams, made up of community stakeholders, will be established within the City in order to help ensure that a comprehensive and complete count is conducted. Community-based volunteers, including representatives of local government, social service agencies, outreach programs, schools, formerly homeless individuals and others will help identify homeless as well as encampments and other places where homeless people can be found within Long Beach and will also help recruit volunteers to help conduct the enumeration.
