City Trash Department

Hello, I hope you can help me. I cannot get the city to do anything I've asked them to do in the 2 years I've lived here. I am a property owner paying over $14K in property taxes per year plus my monthly bill to the city for water, trash and sewer. On 2 separate occassions this year, I called the city to remove large sofas that were illegally dumped at my property. After calling them 3 times per incident, I ended up buying a sledge hammer and breaking the sofas apart myself so that they would fit in the dumpster. Each time they said that a truck would be sent to pick up the sofa but after waiting for close to 4 weeks, I removed the "eye sore" myself.

After the two illegal dumping incidents, the dumpster was vandilized twice with graffitti. After this, I made a decision to petition the city to exchange my dumpster at my 4-unit with normal rolling trash cans. As an aside, all the 4-units on my block have regular rolling trashcans to serve the tenants except for mine which is probably why I'm getting so much illegal dumping in my dumpster.

I called the city trash department (secretary named: Imelda) and logged a request for the change in February 07. After 3 weeks without a response, I posted the same request on the internet "contact us" site. After 2 weeks, I finally reached Imelda at the office, who told me that my request was not in the system and therefore nothing was done. In the meantime my dumpster and the back of my garage was vandelized with graffitti. I explained to Imelda my dilemma and lack of support from the office. She said she would move my case to the front. She told me that if I hadn't heard back in 2 weeks to call the office. Of course, 2 weeks later I called the office. She said the report didn't have any details and she couldn't tell if the case was reviewed by a city official. Its now Friday morning before Memorial Day weekend and she tells me she will talk to the official to determine the answer and call me back by the end of the day. 3pm Friday afternoon comes and goes so I try the office again. Of course there is no answer for the rest of the day and hence still no resolution. I don't know what else I can do to try and get the city to do its job. Its now Memorial Day weekend and I understand that I will never get anything accomplished without help from people other than just me - one overtaxed Long Beach resident. Please help!

Best Regards,
