The city has declared Glorious Manor a public nuisance, and Gloria is appealing the ruling. In preparation for her appeal at a public hearing, on Thursday night the city held a fact-finding meeting at the police station. A Deputy City Attorney, Cristyl Meyers, and the Nuisance Abatement Officer, Rita Hooker, headed the meeting. Two representatives of Gary deLong and residents of 10 affected homes attended. Rita Hooker spoke first giving the history of Glorious Manor's frequent use change and noncompliance. She also mentioned the various city departments that have become involved. Later we went around the table and all the citizens were able to speak of their experiences with Glorious Manor; many were asked to return to the public hearing. I could only speak of seeing the many abandoned shopping carts, hearing of increased crime/graffiti in some blocks, and watching very intimidating people walking the block. Most other residents were able to observe these individuals entering/leaving 420 Grand. Oh, the stories they told. Residents spoke of their fear of retaliation and intimidation. The public hearing will probably be scheduled in late June, depending on an administrator's availability, and Gloria's availability.
The meeting was most interesting and a great civics lesson.
