Stopping mansionization

As Maureen Neeley said in her last post, there is considerable movement afoot at City Hall to stop or severely limit mansionization (demolition of older homes and/or over remodels). Currently pending before the Housing and Neighborhoods Committee are proposals to curtail demolitions of homes over 45 years old and to develop a "neighborhood character stabilization plan" to secure and protect character-defining features of neighborhoods.

The Planning Department will very soon unveil its recommendations for how these objectives will be accomplished.

Please plan to attend the next BHCA meeting on July 11th at 7pm at Fremont school (Termino and 4th) for a full update. Also, please come to the Housing and Neighborhoods Committee of the CIty Council at 2pm on July 17th. Here the Planning Dept will present its findings on the mansionization issue and will propose a menu of options. We need to be there to be sure that what's best for the neighborhoods is what gets approved !

If you have any questions, please call Maureen Neeley at 438-4687 or Marc Coleman at 433-3056 (We're both out of town until July 8.)

Tuesday Meeting

Did anyone attent the Neighborhoods Committee meeting?  I'm curious to find out what sort of recommendations the Planning Department has made...  I was unable to attend the meeting last Wednesday, since I was sitting on an interview panel all day in Newport Beach and worked late into the night afterward.
