Minutes for: BHCA Monthly meeting from 11/14/2007 - 7:00pm to 11/14/2007 - 9:00pm

Attendees: (Users) CMHungerford; Craig Starnes; Dianne Sundstrom; jfries; Kerrie Aley; Mike Stewart;   (Other) John Shiska

  1. Kerrie Aley reported on the "traffic calming" meeting held November 8. Kerrie will be posting minutes of that meeting along with relevant documents outlining key concerns. Councilman DeLong and City traffic staff committed to working with Kerrie and her group to resolve as many identified concerns as possible.
  2. Mark Hungerford reviewed relevant issues from Planning and Building affecting the Heights. Included were a brief review of the project to improve and enhance the Colorado Lagoon, improvements to the facade of the commerical building at the northeast corner of Fourth and Ximeno, and a proposed condo conversion at 337 Redondo that is requesting to increase the number of units from 8 to 9 and that the Planning staff is recommending against. The BHCA encourages all residents to support the Colorado Lagoon project, which we all agree will enhance our community, by emailing their support and any concerns to the City Planning staff. Input from the community must be received by December 7, 2007 to be included in the initial EIR. A link to review all relevant documents as well as an email link to the appropriate City staff will be posted on the website.
  3. Dianne Sundstrom provided some initial data on helicopter activity over the Heights. Redondo Avenue is a FAA corridor for helicopter arrival/departure from the airport. She is awaiting additional information from airport staff and will schedule a more comprehensive presentation at a future meeting.
  4. It was agreed that the BHCA will sponsor a "Light the Heights" competition this year. In order to be considered, nominations must be received by the BHCA by December 14. The BHCA website will be set up to accept nominations. The BHCA Board will judge nominations for first, second, third, and "honorable mention".
  5. Mike Stewart asked for suggestions for improving the website and making it more "user friendly". Please send suggestions to Mike via his contact form which is part of our website, all registered users have a contact form if they've enabled it. Mike also intends to work with the other community organizations and the City of Long Beach in order to faciliate sharing of information.
  6. The next meeting of the BHCA will be December 12. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. With more participation from the community, we can make a difference!!

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Dianne Sundstrom, President, BHCA
