Good News! You will be seeing a number of traffic improvements in our neighborhood.
Park Avenue 25 mph!- Last Tuesday the City Council unanimously approved staff recommendation, that the City Attorney prepare an amendment to the Municipal Code to reduce the speed limit on Park Avenue to 25 mph from 30 mph. The final Municipal Code change will come back to the City Council for final approval. Long Beach Police have been actively ticketing speeders on Park and our neighborhood.
Councilman DeLong is working with Public Works/LB Traffic to come up with a detailed plan and schedule for other safety improvements to Park Avenue.
An update on planned changes, schedule, and issues will be posted. Thanks to the many Park Avenue, 3rd, Colorado, Broadway residents who attended the Traffic Calming meeting and filled out a Neighborhood Traffic Survey.
Toledo/Livingston- Public Works- LB Traffic is making a minor change to the striping on the Toledo curve
approach so that vehicles approach the intersection at more at a right angle to Livingston Drive. Currently vehicles on The Toledo approach the intersection at an angle which encourages drivers to stick out into the crosswalk and take the corner at speed. The planned striping modification should reduce approach speeds on The Toledo and facilitate westbound left-turns on to the Toledo which currently can be problematic due to the existing angle of approach. Earlier this year the City adopted a number of Belmont Park resident’s recommendations to relocate a stop sign and add a pedestrian crosswalk. Special Thanks to Robert Campbell and other Belmont Park /Toledo residents for taking the initiative to improve traffic safety in our neighborhood!
Special Events- Last Wednesday I met with Dave Ashman Manager of LB Special Events. Next year we will begin working with Special Events and Event Promoters to reduce the parking and traffic impacts on our residential neighborhood. We are coordinating this effort with the Belmont Shore and Alamitos Heights resident’s groups. An update on our efforts will be posted.
