Giving Back in Long Beach

By Cynthia Gellis

Did you know that Long Beach has its own designated giving day? Long Beach Gives is a 24-hour online fundraising drive for nonprofit organizations throughout the City. It began in 2019 as a way to increase visibility for local nonprofits while giving a boost to the individual organization’s fundraising goals.

The pandemic shutdown interrupted many nonprofits’ ability to serve their missions, particularly those in the arts and education. As restrictions are being lifted, organizations are struggling to return to business as usual and this year’s Long Beach Gives hopes to give a boost to their bottom lines.

The day is a great opportunity to learn about the work of different local organizations as well as a reminder to support those whose missions we already know and love. Over 150 local organizations are participating in this year’s fund drive. Those selected through the application process receive training and tools to help them make the most of the increased visibility that Long Beach Gives offers. Many organize matching fund challenges, doubling the impact of the donations they receive.

Long Beach Gives will take place on Thursday, September 23, 2021. To learn more about Long Beach Gives and the participating organizations, check out their website: LongBeachGives.org. You can also follow #LongBeachGives and #GrowMoreGood on social media.
