Learn from a Belmont Heights Neighbor and Native Plant Expert

Belmont Heights residents are warmly invited to join us on Wednesday, June 10 for a special BHCA Community Meeting featuring local botanist and conservation expert Andy Chambers.

A field botanist by training, Andy has worked with Claremont Graduate University and the California Botanic Garden, and now oversees habitat conservation projects for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife across much of Southern California.

Closer to home, he and his partner have transformed their Belmont Heights yard into a thriving native plant landscape that supports pollinators, wildlife, and sustainable gardening practices.

What You’ll Learn

Andy will share practical, approachable insights on:

  • Replacing traditional lawns with native plants

  • Creating water-wise, wildlife-friendly landscapes

  • Supporting birds, butterflies, and pollinators

  • Choosing native plants that thrive in Southern California

  • Simple ways residents can create healthier local habitats

He’ll also bring samples of some of California’s beautiful native plants.

Whether you’re an experienced gardener, just getting started, or simply curious about sustainable landscaping, there will be something for everyone.

Long Beach Utilities Will Be On Hand

We’re also pleased to welcome representatives from Long Beach Utilities.

They’ll be available to answer questions about:

  • Lawn replacement rebates

  • Water-saving programs

  • Sustainable landscaping incentives

  • Ways to reduce water use and save money

If you’ve been curious about making changes to your yard but weren’t sure where to begin, this is a great opportunity to speak directly with local experts.

A Community Conversation

BHCA Community Meetings are open to all Belmont Heights residents.

Whether you have questions, concerns, or just want to listen and learn, you’re warmly invited. This is a chance to come together, be heard, and strengthen our neighborhood through open, thoughtful dialogue.

As always, all are welcome — bring a neighbor and your curiosity. 🌊🌱
