Babcock & Cooke

Supporting our neighborhood businesses is more important than ever today. The BHCA will be giving a "Gift Card a Day" for June to one of our active members to help support and highlight small businesses in our neighborhood. Today's winner is Amy White!

Michael Davis at Babkcock & Cooke

The BHCA decided to highlight Babcock & Cooke as our first gift card because, unfortunately, the store was vandalized this past Sunday.

In 1989, 20-year-old Michael Davis was walking the Broadway corridor looking for part-time work and leaving applications with any retailer who would accept them. A week later, he found himself working at Babcock & Cooke on Broadway. During his years there, he witnessed many milestones ushered in by the 1992 King Riots, the cultural revolution, and the revitalization of Long Beach and the new age of the internet. And when the Babcock & Cooke ownership decided to close their business due to illness, Michael Davis seized the opportunity to continue the venue under his ownership. Now 8 years as the sole owner, he has succeeded by offering the community a niche gift and card experience that is unique and personable. Visiting the store is always an adventure with an ever-changing array of inexpensive gifts for every taste, complemented by a large inventory of quality greeting cards.

Support them by stopping by sometime soon.
