6th and Detroit: An Intersection of Style
6th and Detroit is more than just a vintage shop; it's a haven for design enthusiasts and a testament to founder Michelle Qazi’s creative journey. The store’s name pays homage to the intersection of Michelle’s first apartment in Los Angeles, reflecting the personal roots and passion behind the brand. She has lived in Long Beach for about 25 years now.
A SoCal native, Michelle’s journey into the world of vintage began in her first apartment, where a tight budget led her to frequent the local Goodwill. The thrill of discovering unique vintage pieces quickly became a passion.
In 2015, she took a leap of faith and launched an Etsy shop, selling her curated finds. The shop’s success inspired Michelle to open a brick-and-mortar location in the East Village Arts District in 2016. The store gained a dedicated following, drawn by Michelle’s unique every-era-all-together aesthetic. It offers a carefully curated selection of vintage items that bring a sense of home and character to any space. The shop is known for its visually appealing vignettes and serves as a source of inspiration for designers and vintage lovers alike.
In the spring of 2024, 6th and Detroit moved to its current location in Belmont Heights. Michelle says, “I have always loved this area; Belmont Heights is such a cute pocket of Long Beach. Even before I moved my shop here, I would shop at Prism and eat at Speak Cheesy. I’m super excited about being part of the 4th and Termino business community.”
When asked about incorporating mid-century modern items into older Craftsman or Spanish homes found in Belmont Heights, Michelle says, “I like to tell people that if you love a piece, you can make it work. I’m all about having eclectic taste, mixing old and new.”
