On August 10th, a “Summer Fest” event will shine a spotlight on the 4th Street corridor here in Belmont Heights. The plan is to have a day of community, shopping at small businesses, live music, and food, plus local artist pop-ups. Won’t it be great to stroll down 4th Street, visiting stands where local artists are displaying their pieces, listening to live bands, and grabbing a bite to eat from a local restaurant with a food stall?
The event is being spearheaded by Dayna Mance, owner of Prism Boutique (4th & Termino Ave), and Karen Quimby, owner of Twig and Willow (4th & Grand Ave). They’re looking to bring more vibrancy to the corridor, a la the exciting events on 4th Street’s Retro Row on the 4th Fridays, or First Fridays in Bixby Knolls and Downtown. Prism Boutique has been in Belmont Heights for 11 years, and Dayna really feels like the neighborhood has been a wonderful home for her business. “I do events at my store every month. I’m proactive about building community, I love introducing people to our brands, including local and women-owned brands and artists,” she said. This “Summer Fest” on 4th Street is a branching out of these events to something that encompasses and spotlights many businesses. “Our Belmont Height businesses are what helps to make it special for our residents.”
“One of our challenges is that our businesses are more spread out, so we wanted to get people out walking to see all that there is to offer,” Dayna observed about the 4th Street corridor. There will be a scavenger hunt to encourage people to visit many different vendors, with completion entering you into a raffle for prizes. There will be activities for the kids and music for everyone. We hope to see you there!
